In partnership with a Québec kindergarten, this experiment explored how different plastics affect plant growth and soil health. Pea seeds were planted in containers covered with either traditional plastic film or biodegradable PLA film. After 7 weeks, the seeds under traditional plastic didn’t sprout, while those under PLA grew successfully. Another test buried small plastic pieces in soil to observe changes over time — the PLA began breaking down, but the regular plastic remained unchanged. This hands-on experiment helped children understand the environmental benefits of biodegradable materials.
